Not every rider is an honest rider. Motorcycle gear is not cheap and you need to secure everything before you leave your bike.

I learned this lesson the hard way. Someone stole my joe rocket gloves. I was lucky....a shop nearby was selling gloves and I bought a cheap pair to get me home. Since then, I always lock them in my hard bags or stuff them in my helmet when I get off my bike.

When I'm riding with like-minded bikers, I do leave my stuff hanging off the bike. I only do this with riders I trust. I'd never leave my stuff on my bike during a motorcycle rally, poker run or any other large bike event.

I purchased a backrest at Americade 2010, and I must say that I felt very umcomfortable leaving it on the bike. It is just an easy pull up and the backrest is gone. I feel uncomfortable leaving it on the bike---but I see so many backrest on bikes....thinking that I might be a little over cautious. My inner guts says, no you are thinking right---put your backrest away.

    Pray,

I've found that around other riders, you will not have any problems. I've left my GPS on my bike and it was there when I got back. But when around non-bikers, I wouldn't leave a postage stamp on my seat.
