  I have ridden safely in Thailand for many years. Early on, I was talking to a friend who had ridden big bikes all over Thailand and never had an accident. He told me his secret and I will share it with you to spread to the whole world - it is international and it WILL save your life. He said, "Whenever I get on my motorcycle, I put the key in the ignition, then pause for a moment and think to myself: EVERY OTHER DRIVER IS ACTIVELY TRYING TO KILL ME. Then I turn the key, start the bike and go for a ride - safely in the proper frame of mind.
  
  I believe riding in the first world is even more dangerous than riding in the developing world - there you can get complacent and trust that other drivers will follow the rules, they know you have the right-of-way and so they will give way {{CRUNCH - grillornament}}

  I agree, Andrew. I posted a story of my accident while riding. I took for granted that a motorist would do the right thing...wrong! I was lucky that I wasn't badly hurt but I know that there is a world of lousy motorists out there and we must all drive like every other person on the road may do something very stupid...we must be prepared since the other driver, in most cases, is oblivious to what is going on.
