Hello everyone,

I have some rust patches on my sportbike's chain and I was wondering if someone could tell me how to remove it and apply the lubricant/wax. Should I completely clean up the chain i.e. remove the grease/rust before applying the wax/lubricant or should I apply that on top of it and let the wax wear off?

You can get some chain cleaner, apply that first, and re apply chain lube. I use to be a Scottoil convert but now using Silkolene. Great stuff, dries white, som when it weras off, now signs of white on chain. So put more on.

You can clean the chain with kerosene and an old toothbrush. Don't worry about a little surface rust.
Try Dupont Teflon spray lube (in a blue spray can) to coat the chain- no oily, greasy coating to attract dirt, no fling off the chain, is dry, works real well and recommended by many on other sites. I really like it. Available in Walmart, ACE hardware, Home Depot, Loew's, auto supply stores.
Don't forget to check the tension periodically.
