About
This group is for those who are interested in doing basic maintenance themselves. You can save some time (and money) by doing the simple maintenance items yourself and leaving the hard stuff for the dealer.

by Dave 6 months agoGreetings all! I'm looking for a good reference on painting a new fairing. Here's the background:
My new track fairing arrived from Sharkskins. It is, as expected, only coated in primer. I need to read up on the proper way to prepare, spray (i.e., with an airgun, not a rattle can), and finish fiberglass. (It's apparently epoxy resin and weighs about nothing!) This is really body shop 101 material, but if anyone has a good web-reference URL on the subject, I'd be grateful if you'd pass it along.
Thanks.

by Dave 7 months agoSo, let's see. It's snowing and not looking good to get a bike out of the garage anytime soon. I'm thinking of all the projects, upgrades, and general motorcycle TLC I am planning to get done before the weather breaks. What are you guys/gals planning for your babies? (And for those of you who are not snowbound, just never mind! I'm too jealous to even think about it.)

by Tony B 1 year agoUmm.....sounds interesting. One of our members teaches motorcycle maintenance and I'll ask him about it. Maybe you should create a topic in the forum on this page (above the photos section) so it can be saved so everyone can view it

by Mike D 1 year agoGoing for a ride this past weekend my 85 Virago started sputtering and losing power... it had a distinct feeling of air getting into the fuel.... My Dad and I took off the tank and immediately found the problem, there was a gaping hole in the fuel line right near the end, we cut the end off, reattached it and she ran like a brand new bike! Now the same thing is happening again... we're thinking the fuel line is just really old and dry rotted and needs to be replaced... can anyone tell me if this is worth trying to fix yourself or is this past the level of the novice? I don't want to take it to a shop and not have my bike for a week or more, summer is almost over!
